Description: Finally a course that is badly needed. More and more maintenance departments are becoming multi-craft and mechanical folks in maintenance (mechanic, millwright, maintenance technician) need to learn more about the electrical end of keeping a facility running. In this course you will learn how power gets to your facility, how transformers work, how to read a meter, how to check out a circuit, how to troubleshoot a motor, how to disconnect and reconnect a motor properly, and what to do when an overload trips. The attendee should be able to safely perform tests and checks on electrical systems and troubleshoot basic electrical problems. Very big emphasis on safety and learning not to be afraid of electricity but learn the right way to handle electrical problems.

HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES
In each of the sections listed above attendees will be given simple circuit devices to check voltage, amperage, and resistance with appropriate meters. Megohmmeter testing of motors and motor wiring will be accomplished. The attendee will disassemble a motor and change the bearings. More than 35% of the course will be “hands-on” and each student will receive work books, class books, and supervised instruction as well as individual one-on-one assistance to make sure they can accomplish the tasks assigned. It is expected that an attendee will leave the class with the basic knowledge and skill to be able to perform electrical tasks expected of the multi-craftsman.

DURATION, ATTENDANCE and TIMES
Two day duration (8 hours each day) and up to 12 students may attend. Call or email for dates of next scheduled session. Download course syllabus: Download: Basic Industrial Electricity for the Multi-Craftsman
